What Is Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia (FFA)?

Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia (FFA) is a type of hair loss that mostly affects women, especially around or after menopause. It causes the hairline at the front and sides of the scalp to slowly move back, and sometimes it also affects the eyebrows and other areas of the body.

What Causes FFA?

The exact cause is still not fully known, but some possible triggers include:

Hormonal changes (especially around menopause)
Autoimmune conditions (where the body attacks its own hair follicles)
Genetics (runs in families)
Certain skincare or hair products (like heavy sunscreens or fragranced products)
Stress or environmental factors

Common Signs

Hairline slowly moving backwards
Redness or irritation around the hairline
Eyebrow thinning or loss
Smooth, pale skin where hair used to be
